Tile Floors: FAQs on Slip Resistance and Comfort

When you are building a new home or remodeling an old one, you have to choose flooring. A great choice to consider is tile flooring. It can add color and character to a home, but if you have never had tile in your home before you may have some questions about it.

  • Will the tile be slippery? Depending on the tile it may be slippery. Shiny, smooth tile is a more likely culprit in being slippery, especially when wet. While a textured or matte finish offers a less slippery option.
  • Will the tile be cold? Yes and no. Tile holds the room temperature, but it will feel cold to the touch because it is cooler than your body temperature.
  • Will the tile be hard on my legs or back? Yes it can be, but it really has nothing to do with the tile itself. Standing in on place for extended periods of time are hard on the legs and back. One way around this is to get a cushioned mat for when you will be standing. You can also wear a good pair of walking shoes. The are supported and cushion to help these problems.
